emla ® topical anaesthetic creams and patches are designed for use on skin to protect from the needle pain of vaccinations, blood tests and minor skin procedures. emla® is suitable for adults, children and babies.

Topical anaesthetic cream for use prior to the following procedures:
Needle insertions e.g. blood sampling
Vaccinations
Superficial skin procedures
Genital skin procedure e.g. circumcision, or insertion of IUDs
Split skin grafting (transplantation of skin)
Cleaning of leg ulcers
Minor superficial cosmetic procedure e.g. hair removal, tattoo removal
Active Ingredients:
Lignocaine 2.5% /Prilocaine 2.5%
Dosage:
For use as a local anaesthetic, apply a thick layer of cream to skin, under an occlusive dressing. For leg ulcer debridement, apply a thick layer of the cream, up to a total of 10 g to the leg ulcer(s), cover with an occlusive dressing and leave for 30-60 minutes. Cleansing should start without delay after removal of the cream.
Warnings:
The use of EMLA cream is contraindicated in patients with congenital or idiopathic methaemoglobinaemia or known hypersensitivity to local anaesthetics. EMLA should not be applied to open wounds other than leg ulcers. When applied near the eyes, EMLA CREAM should be used with particular care since it causes corneal irritation. The safety of EMLA CREAM during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established.
